What are symptoms of infection with COVID-19?

Different groups of people are affected in different ways by COVID-19. Most infected people experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover without hospitalization.

 

1. The most common symptoms are:

Fever

Cough

Fatigue

Loss of taste or smell

 

2. Less common symptoms are:

Sore throat

Headache

Soreness and pain

Diarrhea

Rash, discoloration of fingers or toes

Red or inflamed eyes

 

3. Serious symptoms include:

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

Speech or movement difficulties, or confusion

Chest pain

 

If your symptoms are severe, seek medical attention immediately. Please call before seeing a doctor or going to a medical facility.

People with mild symptoms who were otherwise healthy should manage their symptoms at home.

Typically, patients develop symptoms 5–6 days after contracting the virus, but symptoms may not appear until 14 days later.
